The Waters of Life

Let us sing this song; Rise up from the well, waters of life.
We sing to you.

Numbers 21:17

It is a chukat olam
an eternal mystery,
a cosmic principle,
that everything changes.
The waters of life are in constant motion.

And life,
as glorious as it can be,
comes with a guarantee of sorrow,
a sureness of loss.,
the inevitability of death.

How to be with the mysteries,
with the waves and swells of
the perpetual motion?

Engage with ritual,
the tradition teaches.
Mark the passages with ceremony.
Call on the sacred.
Declare moments holy.

Treat each other with kindness.
Pause to offer comfort and love.

These practices will hold you
as the waves tumble.

And when the waters come to carry us on,
may it be that we leave goodness and beauty in our wake.
May the world be a better place,
for us having shared our songs.
