On Giving Thanks
Dear Friends,
At times it is so easy to give thanks. Gratitude flows from us like a fountain.
Other times our hearts are heavy, our souls are in turmoil and appreciation feels impossible to reach. Wherever we find ourselves on this day, may we know we are not alone. We are part of a web of connection of loving, thoughtful, generous beings and together we will find our way.
The poet David Whyte teaches:
Gratitude is not a passive response to something we have been given, gratitude arises from paying attention, from being awake in the presence of everything that lives within and without and beside us.
I am awake to the challenges and pain of these times. I am present to the goodness, love and courage of so many. I am deeply grateful for the trees that continue to stand as witnesses and loving companions. And I give thanks for the hope, strength and sustenance that comes from traveling through the seasons together.
May we eat and be nourished.
May we savor the fullness and be satisfied with all we receive.
May our lives be for blessing.
Deuteronomy 8:10
With love and appreciation,
Rabbi Yael
