Help Us Contend with a Nation Lost and Unkind
Dear Friends,
In the wake of the Senate’s appalling vote, here is a psalm for July 4th, which feels like a day to mourn and to rise.
I created this offering from verses from various psalms. You will find the citations at the bottom.
May we find courage and inspiration from the goodness and love of so many.
Much love,
Rabbi Yael
Oh God, Align us with justice,
Help us contend with a nation lost and unkind,
Deliver us from cruel and treacherous leaders.
God, do not be silent,
Do not be still,
Do not be quiet,
For brutality rages and hatred lifts up its head.
Let the evil of tyrants come to an end
Create a firm foundation for justice.
Let those who seek to destroy
Turn back in shame
Let them be humiliated and disgraced.
Please do not let my heart yield to evil
I am surrounded by cruelty and brutality
Help me not give into these ways.
With hearts supported by the Infinite
We will not be afraid,
In time we will see
Tyrants fall.
And those seeking justice will rejoice.
We will celebrate in the presence of the source,
We will be filled with delight and jubilation.
We will build this world with love.
